A rare original printed, and manuscript completed, interest earning Connecticut Treasury Revolutionary War loan certificate payable to DAVID HART of Middletown, with interest payable in Spanish Milled Dollars, gold or silver, on money lent to the State, dated January 14, 1782, and signed by John Lawrence, State Treasurer. On reverse is noted a record of interest payments from 1783 until 1789, signed by David Hart. Such notes were common at a time when money was scarce, and the State could not pay the costs of the war.
