1796, Revolutionary War payment , John Porter, Leonard Kennedy, signed

This is an, original document dated 1796, an interest bearing note to Leonard Kennedy...signed at bottom right by John Porter and on back by Leonard Kennedy. Document is 4x6, folds, else in overall very good condition.
John Porter was born on 23 October 1757 in Lebanon, Connecticut. He was the son of Nathaniel Porter (1727-1775) of Lebanon and his wife Zerviah Wadsworth of Windsor. He graduated from Yale College in 1776, becoming a clerk for Governor Trumbull. He served during the Revolution, and afterwards became the Connecticut Comptroller of Accounts. He married Mary Williams (1765-1844), daughter of Reverend Eliphalet Williams (1727-1803) and his wife Mary Williams (1725-1776) on 20 May 1784. They had at least one son, Henry Chester Porter (1797-1865). John Porter died in Hartford on 28 May 1806.
The State Comptroller is the chief fiscal guardian of the State of Connecticut. The duties and responsibilities of the state comptroller include, among other things, overseeing state accounting, preparing state financial reports, paying and administering benefits to state employees, settling demands against the state that do not first have to be approved or adjusted by the General Assembly, administering miscellaneous appropriations for employee taxes, insurance, and health services, and administering grants to police, firefighters, and municipalities.
Leonard Kennedy (1767-1842) of Hartford is listed as a planemaker who used a very 'British' style. "Leonard Kennedy of Hartford used a very "British" style right from the 1790s, and one might speculate that he could have been trained in Philadelphia or New York. There is little similarity to other New England makers' styles.
