    Description

Late die state 1798 Draped Bust Silver Dollar.  I've handled a few of these coins in my time and this is one of the most interesting yet.  The die used to make this coin has really worked quite hard!   This is one of the last coins to have been minted with this die pairing.  The middle of the stars didn't make the transfer and die cud completely took over the right claw and leg.   I love this type of variety. Such an interesting piece!
Use your best judgement when searching for an early to fit in your collection.   Are you looking for a type coin?  If so, a 1799 or 1798 like this one could fit perfectly.  Since this is a scarcer variety, it makes it that much more special for a type set.
This coin also has very interesting provenance.  It was part of Professor Robert Starks collection and he helped to attribute this variety, B-28.
