    Description

1798 Draped Bust Dollar NGC F12 Pointed 9 4 Berries!  I think this may be the rarer B8a variety with significant impairments to the reverse die, but no guarantees.  This is a very interesting coin that shows many of the striking problems so common to the early days of the US mint.  Striking weakness is present in the center of the reverse (particularly the eagle's head) and is also evident at the upper left of the obverse and corresponding lower left of the reverse.  This can be easily seen on the obverse with the partial omissions of two stars and the letter L, and is even more visible on the reverse with the partial omissions of the letters N and E in UNITED.  I originally thought this might have been a mint error ... a grease-filled die or something of that nature ... but I'm now leaning towards it being a striking issue.  The coin exhibits terrific original antique toning and a very pleasing overall look for the grade!  Free insured shipping to the lucky new owner of this classic early American dollar!
