    Description

Original 1780-1827 black powder horn that looks to me that the horn was carved during the Revolutionary period and, as many horns were, was possibly handed down to later generations who added their own initials and a date of 1827.  Very few nails were used and carving style indicate an 18th century vintage.
It has aged beautifully, with the typical chips and scratches from use.  It is from central PA and may have been used as a pistol flask, judging by its smaller size.
The horn measures 7".  There are, I think, two sets of carved initials, a date (18)27 and a D, which may denote military use as in Company D.  Other marks are illegible to me.
The spout is nicely carved, probably to insure a better grip in the haste of re-loading.
Please study the photos carefully so you know what you will receive.  I do not take returns through eBay on historical artifacts, but I stand behind the authenticity and originality of my sales if you contact me directly.  Thanks.
