ORIGINAL, RARE REVOLUTIONARY WAR 4 LB AMERICAN CANNONBALL. FOUND ON THE MONMOUTH BATTLEFIELD NJ. GREAT CONDITION WITH ORIGINAL PATINA! UNKNOWN SPECIFIC AREA OF THE BATTLEFIELD EXCAVATED. THE BRITISH ARMY WAS WITHDRAWING ACROSS NEW JERSEY WITH THEIR LONG SUPPLY TRAINS AND SIEGE GUNS PROTECTED BY BRITISH ARMY UNITS ON THEIR WAY BACK TO NEW YORK WHEN THE AMERICAS ATTACKED THEIR REAR-GUARDÂ - THE BATTLE OF MONMOUTH WAS ONE OF THE LARGEST FOUGHT IN THE REVOLUTION - JUNE 28 -1778 - WHEN THE CONTINENTALÂ ARMY UNDER GENERAL WASHINGTON PLANNED TO AMBUSH THE REAR OF THE RETREATING BRITISH ARMY- ONE LONG BATTLE ENDED IN A TACTICAL DRAW - ONE OF THE LEGENDS WAS THAT OF MOLLY PITCHER (MOLLY HAYS) WHO TOOK HER HUSBAND'S PLACE RAMMING SHOT IN A CANNON , WHEN HE WAS INJURED - A BULLET OR CANNONBALL PASSED BETWEEN HER ARMS - SHE STATED- THAT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE AND LOADED THE CANNON - GREAT RELIC FROM THAT HISTORIC BATTLE!
