    Description:
    A Barnstead / J-Kem BTS 3000 Digital Orbital Variable Speed Shaker with Heated and Cooled Reation Block, and J-Kem Model 150/Timer.  I verified that the Digital Shaker works fine.  I also verified that the J-Kem Model 150  Timer is intermittant.
    It somehow intermittantly forgets that there is a temperature probe hooked up.
    I will supply this with a different temperature controller (and the J-Kem 150/Timer, in case you are good at fixing things like this).
    The temp controller I am providing is a "custom" made unit.  Some of the parts used in this controller are described below.  I verified that this controller works fine with the BTS 3000 Heated / Cooled Reaction Block.

    The CN8500 temperature controller is extremely versatile and user-friendly. The operator needs to review only those parameters relevant to the particular application during setup. A dual digital display offers optimum process information at a glance. The dedicated upper display shows the process temperature, while the lower display displays setpoint and setup parameters. Individual LED’s identify the status of outputs, alarms, digital communications and special options. The CN8500 features a NEMA-4X front panel and a universal power supply that accepts 103 to 253

    and 103 to 330 V dc. Control algorithms available are P, PI, PD, PID, or ON/OFF. The autotune feature automatically sets proportional band, rate and reset before the process reaches setpoint. These parameters provide quick stabilization of both the heating and cooling process without overshoot, hunting or cycling. The standard dual control outputs can be configured in a variety of control and alarm applications such as heat, heat/cool, heat/alarm, cool, or cool/alarm. The Ramp to Setpoint feature allows the user to define the rate of rise to reach the setpoint, thus minimizing thermal shock to the load during start-up.

    Regarding the Relay:
    The SSRL series of
    solid state relays
    are used to control large
    resistance
    heaters in conjunction with temperature controllers. Solid state relays are SPST, normally open switching devices with no moving parts, capable of millions of cycles of operation. By applying a control signal, an
    SSR
    switches ON the ac load current, just as the moving contacts do on a mechanical contactor. Three-
    phase
    loads can be controlled using 2 or 3 SSR’s. Use 3 SSR’s for Y or star 3-
    phase
    loads using a neutral line. Two SSR’s will control “delta” loads with no neutral line. Three
    solid state relays
    are also used when there is no neutral load to provide redundancy and extra assurance of control.
    “Switching” takes place at the zero voltage crossover point of the alternating current cycle. Because of this, no appreciable electrical
    noise
    is generated, making SSR’s ideal for environments where there are apparatuses susceptible to
    RFI
    .

    Information on the ATC 425 component of this custom temperature controller.
    The Automatic Timing and Control ( ATC ) 425 is a digital set LED digital display timer. Three rotary switches allow precise time setting from .01 Sec to 999 Hrs. The ATC 425 offers the industry’s brightest green LED display in a 1/16 DIN package. The three-digit LED display will time UP to the Time Preset. Through its internal microcontroller, the ATC 425 keeps track of the time setting by monitoring each of the three Time Preset switches.
    Whenever a change is made in the time preset, even during a cycle, the ATC 425 instantly re-computes and adjusts the current timing cycle. The ATC 425 requires 120 volts AC and has 5 amp contacts. Both relays are DELAYED (DPDT). The ATC 425 uses the 8 PIN (Octal) socket common on most small TDR's. (Use p/n TAT8258500 for surface/DIN rail socket). This ATC TDR is UL, CSA and CE approved. ATC p/n is 425A300Q20XX.
