    Description

PHILIP SKENE FOUNDRYSPIKE HEAD TOMAHAWK, LAKE CHAMPLAIN, NEW YORK COLLECTION, 1760’s/70s
This VERY rare Philip Skene Foundry hammer back tomahawk is from the Lake Champlain area of New York & dates back to the 1700’s.
It was found in the Fort Ticonderoga area & on display in a small private museum in Ticonderoga, New York for many years.     The iron tomahawk head is 4 3/8” long head with a flat back & an oval poll.                                                                                           The 12 15/16” hand carved oak handle that still has some of file marks & some small dings but no cracks.                                         It is in good condition with head having light pitting all over & a dark brown patina & the wood handle is also in good condition.
It was bought by the famous Revolutionary War collector James Dunn who bought out the Ticonderoga museum in 1936 & added the artifacts to his existing collection.                                                                                                                                                       It comes with a certificate of authenticity & a Dunn Collection letter.
