REV WAR Ca. 1770's COLLECTOR'S GEM MILITARY HATCHET! RAREST EARLIEST SIMPLICITY

$ 184.8

Availability: 100 in stock

Description

YES! This is the "GEM HATCHET" to experienced collectors of Rev War camp axes.
Its elongated 1 3/4 inch  tear-drop eye reaches the base of the 1-inch truncated poll,
and on the eye's front end is 1 1/2 inches from the bit. The haft top would have seemed oversize, but
provided huge leverage for wielding this heavy, small iron hatchet of such simple,
rectangular
"picasso" shape.
Many similar axes with slight variations are NOT the same genre. This one is guaranteed to
be a Rev War camp ax as described. (Note: The white ink collector's designation "2019 Mass" was
put there by a prior owner. Quite likely, the hatchtet was found in Massachusetts. 2019 is not a date.)
Size: 4 3/8 inches poll to bit.  3 inches width of bit.
Condition: No resharpening. Light surface cleaning. Some erosion. Poll shows
"mushrooming"--a sign this hatchet was used for hammering during Rev War.
