    Description

    Original Revolutionary War document, 1 pg., approx. 11" x 3-7/8", dated at Groton, Connecticut, Sept. 3, 1777, signed by Ben Adam Gallup (also known as Benadam Gallup), 1716-1800, as Justice of the Peace. He was also a Lt. Colonel in the Ct. Militia, and served in the War.
    Great content, ordering Corporal Simeon Capron to impress two good guns fit for service, to furnish two soldiers who have orders to march to join the Northern Army. The guns are to be taken from "some persons in the town of Groton who have more guns than one to each soldier of their family".
    The document reads:
    "To Corporal Simeon Capron to serve and return. Whereas application is made to me by the Selectmen of the [town] of Groton for a warrant to impress two good guns and accouterments fit for service to furnish two soldiers who have orders to march with the militia to join the Northern Army and not able to provide arms &c for themselves, these are in the name of the Governor and Company of this State to command you to impress said guns &c. of some persons in the town of Groton who have more guns than one to each soldier of their family and to have the same apprized and make return hereof.
    Dated at Groton, the 3d Day of September AD 1777.
