    Description

Thursday, December 29, 1774. No 89. Contains two digest articles from the Boston Gazette 'in Provincial Congress', the First Continental Congress, both signed in type by John Hancock and Benjamin Lincoln. The first article concerns the development of a self-sufficient American industry to counter need for British goods. The second concerns the collection of funds for the self-defense of the colony "against the danger to which it was then exposed, by a standing army illegally posted in Boston ... for the purposes of subverting our ancient constitution and the liberties of all North America ... a considerable sum of money should be laid for the just defence of this people..." Also included in the issue are the speeches of Edmund Burke and Henry Cruger, Jr., on their election in Bristol, and a short reply to 'the Vindicator', referring to Alexander Hamilton's  response in the issue of December 22 to Samuel Seabury's letter as A. W. Farmer (A Westchester Farmer). Two advertisements on runaway Irish servants. Some staining, loss to bottom right corner (no text affected), small hole at center crease.
